Anastasia

Save A Child brought over several Anastasias, and we were lucky enough to host one of them. She was a beautiful girl, and at the end of the hosting program when we talked to her about adoption, she insisted that she did not want to be adopted.. We waited a few days, then asked her again. Her response was always the same. We were a little hurt when we found out so many of the other kids from the same orphanage wanted to be adopted. Were we a bad family? Was our house stinky? :) Were we terrible cooks? It did not make sense.

We got a chance to chat with another family in Ukraine this past weekend. They informed us that Anastasia has been adopted by an Italian family. When we were told that, we recalled a conversation we had with Anastasia when she first got here about how she had been hosted in Italy a few times, but she had never elaborated much on that and we did not talk about it again. Now it all makes sense. Someone in Italy was obviously very good to her for several years, and unlike a lot of false dreams some of these kids have, this wonderful family not only fulfilled their word, but they also adopted her sister. Her indifference to adoption is understandable now, and we are glad that she has a family who will give her the love she deserves.
