At the last group lunch, Charrisse told how she brought fleece blankets to the orphanage, and how much the orphan kids loved them. She said something so 'soft and cuddly' can bring comfort to a child. That makes a lot of sense. My son Caleb has a stuffed dog he got for his first birthday. He named that dog 'bacon'. When Caleb gets upset or sad, he goes into his room, closes the door and curls up on his bed with Bacon. Bacon is pretty tattered, but still cuddles with Caleb, even after 9 years. The many blogs talk about how impersonal these orphanages are. Wendy said that despite the amazing workers who keep the kids warm, clothed and fed, these kids are merely numbers in the system. Thus, the goal is to give each child a warm, cuddly blanket that they can call their own.
Our wonderful ward (Pheasant Point II) is doing a service project to collect as much fleece as
they can. The young women will then tie the fleece and we'll bring it to these kids. Fleece is light-weight and compresses well, so we're hoping to collect a bunch. We're also collecting socks and underwear for the orphanage. That will make the director happy, while the kids get joy from the blankets. A HUGE thank you to our ward. You are amazing - thank you, thank you!!.If anyone would like to donate a fleece blanket, socks or underwear (boys or girls, ages 4-16), please let me know. The more we can bring, the more smiles we create.

Wow, it won't be long now. I would give you our giant bag of socks and underwear, but I'm hoping we'll need it ourselves for a future adoption. It sounds like a great project.
The fleece blankets will be great!!
AND I finally got some info about your diretor's gift. Oxana (facilator) and Victor (translator) came up with expensive cologne (but they said perfume-mens perfume) or a really nice pen-like one he can have on his desk in a stand or something.
Hope that helps! (I'd go for the pen-as it would not break nor be as expensive-too bad you can't get it engraved!)
Wendy
I asked Natasha and she said maybe even a book on/about Utah for the director... she said not about mormons, but Utah. Vladimir couldn't come up with anything. A pen would be lighter to pack : )
I gave the director a large photo book of Utah already. don't know if he liked it. He is a big fan of educational materials and sports.
